Hole in one for Mary!

Mary Harris recorded her first ever hole-in-one at the weekend in her match against Ann Loughman. Mary struck an 8-iron up to the back right pin position on the par 3 7th hole in her Julie Curtis Cup match.

Her yellow ball ran up the green and nestled against the flag stick, keeping Mary guessing as to how close the ball was to the hole! However, she needn’t have worried too much as upon removing the stick the ball fell into the cup for that great feeling of the ultimate golf shot. Well done Mary!

Colin Timms

I have three pieces of excellent news to impart re our very good friend Colin Timms. I’ll leave it to you to decide on their order of importance…

Excellent News 1: An anonymous report has reached me which stated – and I quote – “On Tuesday July 23rd 2013, Colin Timms shot a gross score, off the white tees, of less than his age.” (Contrary to many members’ belief, it wasn’t 95, but 72 – 3 less than his age!) Off his official handicap, it would have been a net 56. But unfortunately, during the thunderstorms, a few spots of rain fell on his scorecard, making it unsuitable for handing in for handicap assessment.

Such a feat hasn’t even been achieved by such illustrious persons as our Chairman and course record holder Dave Miles, Dave Watson, Anthony Light, the Wallace boys, David Hirst or Ben Plumridge (who was a witness to the event).

Excellent News 2: Colin has been advised by his doctor that he is clear of all cancer.

Excellent News 3: He only went and did it again! Not content with one amazing round, on Saturday July 27th, Colin shot ANOTHER round of 72!

Huge congrats from everyone, Colin. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy! Cheers!

Another National Final beckons….

I am delighted to report that Rickmansworth have managed to reach the National Finals of the NAPGC organised Men’s Team Championship ‘Bourne-Vanneck’ Shield. As stated before we entered 2 teams this year, both playing in the regional qualifier held at Easthampstead GC on Saturday. On a very windy day 19 teams set out, but it was the Rickmansworth ‘A’ team of Dave Watson, Tom Wallace, Anthony Light & Harry Wallace that played terrifically well and qualified in one of the 4 available berths for the National Final at Thornbury Golf Club, Bristol next month.

The Rickmansworth ‘B’ team also put in a very good effort captained by Mick Rogers, but the tough format took it’s toll and they finished mid division. However, this was a very good experience and will only hold us in good stead for future events. There is no doubt that these are great times for Rickmansworth Golf Club, reaching the Clapham Common finals the the last 2 years running, being unbeaten in our friendly matches for 3 years and now a Team Championship National Final to come.

As we now head into the heart of the season, the matches and events come thick and fast and I wish all players the best of luck in playing & representing The Club in The Clapham, The Hawtree, our numerous friendly matches and the big internal tournaments of The Club Championship & The Rickmansworth Salver.
