Ladies v Wexham – Wednesday 26th June

The ladies played host to Wexham last week, but had another close defeat, once again losing by 1½ to 2½. In a repeat of our last match, 2 games were lost on the 18th green.

Ladies v Haste Hill; Wednesday 22nd May

The ladies had a very close match away at Haste Hill, unfortunately losing by 1 ½ – 2 ½. Two of the games were only decided on the 18th hole.

Ladies v Batchwood – Wednesday 24th April

The Ladies team played their first friendly match of the year last week, away at Batchwood.

The match should have been 4x 4BBB’s, but unfortunately Batchwood were unable to find 8 players. Therefore, we played 1 singles match & 2x 4 BBB’s & we managed a 2-1 win.

Lek Kongaunruan played in her first match, hopefully the 1st of many!

Ladies Daily Mail Foursomes

On Friday 8th March, B Arlow and Sherril Bryden played in the 1st round of the Daily Mail Foursomes.
Drawn against Batchworth Park we didn’t have far to travel. We started well and were even at the 5th, then we had a slump & lost the next 4. Deciding we couldn’t do much worse so relaxed into the game. Unfortunately by the 13th we had to win all the holes to be in with a chance to win. Managed to win every hole until conceding the game at the 16th.
Had a great day but were no match for the ladies from Batchworth who play 3-4 times a week and have been at the club since it opened.
Looking forward to entering the competition next year.

Seniors’ matches update

The Seniors played successive matches against, and with, the Ladies on consecutive Mondays, 17th and 24th July. Unusually, the match against the Ladies was played with thirteen players in each team at the request of the Ladies. Due to miscommunication one of the men did not turn up so they only had 12 players. Thirteen proved to be an unlucky number for the Ladies as the Senior Men retained the Mallick-Holden Trophy.

The second match was a mixed match against Oakland Park. On paper Oakland seemed to have a strong team with their players’ handicaps averaging about four strokes lower than the Rickmansworth golfers. However home advantage more than levelled the playing field, particularly with Ricky’s tricky greens resulting in a 6-0 whitewash for Rickmansworth. Ricky saved the best to the end with the last pair out, Ann Paris and Syd Carter securing the biggest victory by 5 and 4.

NAPGC Hawtree Match Report – played on 30-Apr-2017

The first of the NAPGC matches in 2017 was the Hawtree Trophy, which is a Mixed Greensomes Stableford competition and this year it was played away at Haste Hill Golf Club. We knew it would be a difficult one to win as an away venue sways the advantage to the home club, but the Rickmansworth teams gathered on the day with best intentions in mind. Having given our best efforts and some great golf having been played, we came away with a loss. The scores were tallied up and the outcome was 148 points to Haste Hill Golf Club and 110 points to Rickmansworth Golf Club. We hope to be back again next year, but maybe with a home draw and a win. I believe that some new friendships were made on the day, and from me a big thank you to all the Rickmansworth players, Joan McLaughlin, B Arlow, Mary Harris, Ann Loughman, Rob Camilleri, Ian Mackie and Jake Jacobson for supporting this fantastic competition.

A win for the Ladies

In our first match of the season, the Ladies Section played their annual friendly against Little Hay at home on the 12th April 2017 and won 4-0.

The match was followed by a buffet provided by the Fairway Inn.

I would like to thank all the Ladies who put themselves forward for this match.

Seniors v Ladies match

On a scorcher of a day, Monday July 18th, the Seniors took on the Ladies in an attempt to regain the Mallick-Holden Trophy. A great opportunity was missed. The ladies had eleven players signed up and Colin Timms volunteered to play for them wearing a skirt and wig so we could have six fourballs. Unfortunately one of the ladies had to withdraw (or maybe no-one wanted to play with Colin in a skirt!), so we had to play five matches rather than six. The Ladies succumbed to the Seniors 1½ to 3½ and we were all left wondering what might have been.
