Committee change

After some ten years or so of service, Gerald Hirst has decided he needs a well-earned break and has resigned from the Committee. We couldn’t find one person willing to take on all the work Gerald did, so his responsibilities have been divided up. Darryl Nunn will take over as Treasurer. Tom Moore has agreed to be the Auditor. Frank Haines will take on the membership duties and Golfguard insurance renewal. Clive Bennett will look after the trophies, mementos and medals.

New Captain’s message…

Jake Jacobson was confirmed as the new Men’s Captain for 2019 at last week’s AGM.

Here’s his Captain’s message:

In November 2017 Martin Bartlett asked me if I would be his Vice Captain of RGC at which I said I will think about it. After a long time contemplating the responsibility and thinking why me? I was informed that I would make a good Vice captain and a Good Captain the following year (2019) for RGC by many of you members reading this with a grin on your faces right now.

My first thought was I play to switch off and relax and enjoy my day or days golf with mates on the course and the club games! My other concern was my mouth as most of you know I’m not shy in coming forward and having a good laugh (a lack of etiquette). Also funding the Captains Day`s and away day too? And compiling Club Golfing Schedule for the season with attending monthly Golf Committee meetings and working with the Club Manager/Club Professionals. The time it will consume with me still working full time (long hours) it’s a job for a retired member not me I thought? At the end of 2017 and start of 2018 it was a bad place/time for me? Other main concern was the take over of ‘One Active’ group in July 2018 who gave us reassurance all would be ok, and we will be helping to improve the RG Club? Well from then till January 2019 communication was very poor until I showed my concern on their website. I was approached by the Regional Manager to meet up with him? But instead I invited him to our monthly meeting in February as I informed him my anger was what we as club members felt and discussed that we have been over looked and pushed to one side by One Active Group. We had a very detailed discussion with some idea of where they are going and said things that will be happing over the coming year they could or would not say anymore that, the refurbishment looks great but still missing that club feel let’s see what the future brings?

As your Captain for 2019 I am starting to understand and enjoy the challenges that are ahead. With the season slowly creeping up, our first HFL game will be away to Batchwood. Members who are interested in playing for the club please contact Ben or myself.

I want to say what an excellent 2018 was for our Captain Martin Bartlett and the team, it was a fantastic year in winning the HFL and most of Friendly matches. I ask myself how do we follow that? Well I know we can. I hope you will support Ben and myself and make this an enjoyable season for RGC.

I have decided to have my Captains away day at Stocks Golf Club near Tring. The day has been organised for the 3rd May 2019.

Captains Day has been organised for the 20th July 2019, here is hoping that both events will be well attended with fantastic weather and great golf.

My Vice Captain I am pleased to say is Ben Plumridge. I’m very happy Ben will be my right-hand man and a perfect Captain for 2020. I would also like wish both the Ladies and Senior Captains a fantastic year ahead.

Next, I want to thank Gregory Devenish and his Greenkeepers on what they have achieved so far and with the plans for the course to be A1+ by the start of the season and we the club members are 100% behind you and your team the Greenkeepers. So Greg on competition days be kind to members and impossible for our guest.

My Capitan’s Charity is Annabelle’s Challenge Vascular EDS Charity, for Vascular Etler-Danlos Syndrome (vascular EDS), a rare life limiting genetic disorder. 740 people in the UK have vascular EDS, currently 238 are registered on their patient database. To understand more about the Charity, go to https://annabelleschallenge.org/ Donation details will follow as will my ideas for Captains day. Captains Charity Hole is Hole one, it’s a 3-Putt on the 1st green = £1 in Charity Pot in the clubhouse meaning 3 or more puts will cost you a £1. This will take place from 1st April 2019.

May I take this opportunity to say that as a club let’s have a fantastic year of golf in 2019. And will see you all out on the course over the coming weeks and months.

Thank you all from Jake Jacobson your Captain 2019

Captain’s Half Year Update

Captain’s day 2017:

Firstly, it was fantastic to see so many of the members out for Captain’s day, you really made the day positively fantastic, so pat yourselves on the back as we also raised £546.60 for Cancer Research UK. So a BIG, BIG, thank you to all who very generously gave up your time, and cash, to make the day a great success. I would also like to say a special thank you to Steve Milligan who setup the Active Leader Board for the day, which made scoring simple and in real time.

Friendly Matches:

We are now starting to play the second round of our friendly matches with Meyrick Park, Aylesbury Park and Richmond Park. Unfortunately we have had to postpone the return match v Meyrick Park, this match will now be played when the date has been re-arranged. We are about to play Aylesbury Park, maybe for the last time as HS2 will be digging up their golf course in the not too distant future. Rickmansworth is doing well in these competitions and with your support we will be victorious.

Herts Friendly League Matches:

The Herts Friendly League is also rolling into the second half of the season and Rickmansworth will be hosting several clubs over the next 5 weeks, so we have a very busy July and early August. I hope that the excellent support I have had so far this year, will continue over this 5 week busy period and beyond, so we can complete a very hectic schedule over these next few weeks. You can check the Rickmansworth league results by visiting the Little Hay Golf Club pages and clicking on the “Herts Friendly League” button at the bottom left of the page.

NAPGC Hawtree Match:

This was the first of the NAPGC matches, which is a Mixed Greensomes Stableford competition and this year it was played away at Haste Hill Golf Club. Unfortunately this year we did not go through to the next round but we will be back next year to perhaps go further in this competition.

NAPGC Bourne-Vanneck Shield and Cup:

This is a Men’s Club Team Championship match, Rickmansworth fielded an A team (low handicaps) and a B team (mid Handicaps). The A team was doing well but got pipped at the last and finished fourth, which is a very good result considering there was a high standard of competition. Ricky can also take away the feel good factor of posting the lowest nett round of the day out of all competitors. So, once again, we will be back next year to try again.

NAPGC Clapham Common Platinum Shield and Ellis Cup 2017:

Rickmansworth was victorious over Farnham Park which has given us an additional challenge of organising the next match v Ruislip within the required time scales of 23rd of July. We now have a good team for this match, and while it will be very challenging, we hope to come through and progress to the next round.

Captains Note:

Seems that this year is flying past and no sooner did my Captaincy start, it is now in the second half of the season. I have had great support from all the players so far this year, so a big thank you from the Captain for your time and some excellent scoring in the Club Matches. I am also very glad to see that we are getting quite a few new members and I hope that they will enjoy the club, the competitions, and the comradeship that I have since I joined in 2012, I think, the time has gone so quickly. Lastly, I wish you all a very good second half of the golfing season and hope to see you on the course, or at the Fairway Inn for a chat and a coffee.

New Captains drive in on Club Day

2016 Captains Graham Farmer and Sherril Bryden took to the 1st tee on Saturday afternoon to officially ‘drive in’ up the famous first hole. A big crowd gathered and cheered them on, fresh from playing in Club Day 2016.
