Captain’s Day report

Captain’s Day 2016 saw 53 people take part under sunny skies. Home made cakes and drinks were sold on the 13th hole, all in aid of The Sick Children’s Trust. I would like to thank my wife for baking all the cakes and both my mother and wife for helping out on the day.

When the players had finished they sat down to a light lunch of ham, egg and chips. Many thanks to Grant and the staff at The Fairway Inn. The scores were tallied up and some great scores were had. In second place with 41 points was Gerald Hirst, but a big congratulation to the winner Joshua Simon with a great score of 42 points. The guest winner was Craig Bartlett. Also well done to all the nearest the pin winners and the longest drive winner.

The day managed to rise £418.60, a big thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets, cakes and drinks – I’m sure The Sick Children’s Trust will be very pleased for all your donations. A very big thank you to everyone who supported me on the day.

Club Champions

Ian Mackie followed up his remarkable 1st round nett 55 in the Rickmansworth Salver with a solid nett 67 to become the Nett Club Champion for 2016. Grant Convey (nett 58 + 65) pushed Ian all the way, and was unfortunate as his core of nett 123 would win in any other year – unlucky Grant. Congrats Ian!

In the Scratch Championship played over 36 holes on Sunday, the first round could hardly have been closer with 1 stroke separating 4 players. David Watson & Gerald Hirst led the way with 73s, and Ben Plumridge & David Hirst were just a stroke behind on 74. The morning’s persistent drizzle finally gave way after lunch, with the sun coming out and the wind getting up which then spread out the field. David Watson claimed the title with an afternoon round of 68 for a 36 hole total of 141, from David Hirst in 2nd place and defending champion Ben Plumridge in 3rd.

David and Ian will represent Rickmansworth Golf Club at next year’s NAPGC Men’s Championship.
