Scratch Order of Merit update – ahead of final event!

Well, it’s all come down to the final event of the season to determine this year’s Scratch Order of Merit Champion. The final counting event is the Mike Murphy Cup, played over the weekend of 10/11 October.

This season has seen the highest quality scratch scores recorded in many a year. The standard of golf this season has been terrific and the bar is well and truly raised at the top end of the handicap list. This healthy competition is good for the club, as members drive each other on.

In pole position is Ian Roche with an average scratch score of 69.22 from his 9 events played so far. No doubting, Ian’s highlight came in early September in the Len Covey Medal, where he shot a fabulous one under par round, of 64.

Lurking in Ian’s rear view mirror is Club Champion David Watson, just 0.28 of a stroke behind – averaging 69.50 over his 6 counting rounds so far. Club Captain Ben Plumridge is in third place, presently averaging 70.89 for his 9 counting rounds thus far.

Hole in one alert

Huge congratulations to Glyn Halliday, who today during the Len Covey September Medal, managed the ultimate shot in golf – an ace on the par 3 13th hole. No photos this time, but I’m sure Glyn and his playing partners all enjoyed that shot!
