Captain’s update – 7th May

After a good month in April, the men’s team have carried on our winning streak with another win in the Clapham Common competition, and enjoyed an excellent Captain’s away day at Stocks GC.

Captain’s away day at Stocks 3rd May.

An excellent turn our by the boys and we had a very enjoyable day on a beautiful course that we all liked to play on with the weather being on our side.

Results as follows:-

1st  Graham Simon on 43 points

2nd Peter Bartlett on 40 points

Longest Drive: Ben Plumridge

Nearest the pin: Danny Simmonds

Blind pairs: Ben Plumridge & Graham Simon on 81 points

Well done to everyone who took part.

Clapham Common competition 5th May – Rickmansworth v Little Hay

This was half the team at home and away.

Away team played well and was only down by 19 points with our home team winning by 31 points. It was nail biting waiting for our home team results as they played half an hour behind the away team. So Rickmansworth won by 12 points – a big well done to the whole team on the day.

As a member of the team mentioned, “Another good result on Sunday. Our opposition made the mistake that many teams make. They put two low handicap golfers out together. You always get the best results by mixing a high and a low. Not enough shots for them to be able to have a few bad holes. Then once they start falling behind the pressure is on and they try too hard. Score another one up to Rickmansworth greens”.

We will know our opponents in the next round, as Haste Hill are playing Wycombe Heights this weekend coming.

WELL DONE AGAIN BOYS AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL THIS SATURDAY ON CLUB DAY.

Our next match is 1st June being the Bourne-Vanneck Qualifier. Team pick nearer the time.

Regards Jake

Captain’s update…

HFL update

Well done RGC by beating Little Hay at home by 27 points in last Saturday’s HFL match. Scores were: RGC 211 vs Little Hay 184. Some great scores ranging from 38 points to 48 points. Keep it going lads, you’re doing the club proud.

NAPGC Clapham Common Shield

We have drawn Little Hay in the next round of the Clapham Common Shield competition, but we will not take it for granted that it will be that easy. Sunday 5th May is the chosen date due to fixtures from both sides and availability. I will be picking the team for this match by this weekend.

NAPGC Gordon Forster Bowl

Well done again to Ben Plumridge, Dave Miles, Peter Bartlett and Martin Bartlett on winning the area final of the NAPGC Gordon Forster Bowl (Winter pairs knockout), and now making it through to the national final, at CHERWELL EDGE GOLF CLUB – this Sunday 28th April 2019. Good luck!

New Captain’s message…

Jake Jacobson was confirmed as the new Men’s Captain for 2019 at last week’s AGM.

Here’s his Captain’s message:

In November 2017 Martin Bartlett asked me if I would be his Vice Captain of RGC at which I said I will think about it. After a long time contemplating the responsibility and thinking why me? I was informed that I would make a good Vice captain and a Good Captain the following year (2019) for RGC by many of you members reading this with a grin on your faces right now.

My first thought was I play to switch off and relax and enjoy my day or days golf with mates on the course and the club games! My other concern was my mouth as most of you know I’m not shy in coming forward and having a good laugh (a lack of etiquette). Also funding the Captains Day`s and away day too? And compiling Club Golfing Schedule for the season with attending monthly Golf Committee meetings and working with the Club Manager/Club Professionals. The time it will consume with me still working full time (long hours) it’s a job for a retired member not me I thought? At the end of 2017 and start of 2018 it was a bad place/time for me? Other main concern was the take over of ‘One Active’ group in July 2018 who gave us reassurance all would be ok, and we will be helping to improve the RG Club? Well from then till January 2019 communication was very poor until I showed my concern on their website. I was approached by the Regional Manager to meet up with him? But instead I invited him to our monthly meeting in February as I informed him my anger was what we as club members felt and discussed that we have been over looked and pushed to one side by One Active Group. We had a very detailed discussion with some idea of where they are going and said things that will be happing over the coming year they could or would not say anymore that, the refurbishment looks great but still missing that club feel let’s see what the future brings?

As your Captain for 2019 I am starting to understand and enjoy the challenges that are ahead. With the season slowly creeping up, our first HFL game will be away to Batchwood. Members who are interested in playing for the club please contact Ben or myself.

I want to say what an excellent 2018 was for our Captain Martin Bartlett and the team, it was a fantastic year in winning the HFL and most of Friendly matches. I ask myself how do we follow that? Well I know we can. I hope you will support Ben and myself and make this an enjoyable season for RGC.

I have decided to have my Captains away day at Stocks Golf Club near Tring. The day has been organised for the 3rd May 2019.

Captains Day has been organised for the 20th July 2019, here is hoping that both events will be well attended with fantastic weather and great golf.

My Vice Captain I am pleased to say is Ben Plumridge. I’m very happy Ben will be my right-hand man and a perfect Captain for 2020. I would also like wish both the Ladies and Senior Captains a fantastic year ahead.

Next, I want to thank Gregory Devenish and his Greenkeepers on what they have achieved so far and with the plans for the course to be A1+ by the start of the season and we the club members are 100% behind you and your team the Greenkeepers. So Greg on competition days be kind to members and impossible for our guest.

My Capitan’s Charity is Annabelle’s Challenge Vascular EDS Charity, for Vascular Etler-Danlos Syndrome (vascular EDS), a rare life limiting genetic disorder. 740 people in the UK have vascular EDS, currently 238 are registered on their patient database. To understand more about the Charity, go to https://annabelleschallenge.org/ Donation details will follow as will my ideas for Captains day. Captains Charity Hole is Hole one, it’s a 3-Putt on the 1st green = £1 in Charity Pot in the clubhouse meaning 3 or more puts will cost you a £1. This will take place from 1st April 2019.

May I take this opportunity to say that as a club let’s have a fantastic year of golf in 2019. And will see you all out on the course over the coming weeks and months.

Thank you all from Jake Jacobson your Captain 2019

AGM – Thursday 21st March

Colin Taylor – RIP

Colin Taylor at Panshanger

It is with great sadness that Rickmansworth Golf Club has learned of the passing of Colin Taylor last Wednesday. Colin was a member of the club for many years, but sadly lost his fight against cancer.

Colin was always a cheerful character around the club, and represented the club in numerous club matches. Colin won the Rabbits Cup in 2014, and was always dangerous off his 24 handicap when on form!

RIP Colin, from all your friends at Rickmansworth GC.
