Hole in one!

Congratulations to new member Jez Gleeson who made a hole in one at the 7th hole in yesterday’s RNLI Shield. The competition was a very close run affair with 3 players all returning nett 61s. Dave Miles (Club President) was the winner on count-back, from runner-up and playing partner, Leon Kelly, with current Club Champion Archie Ahmed in third. Well played everyone!

Good news – competition diary updated!

With a bit of re-jigging around, the club competition diary is now updated with most events that couldn’t be played in April and May now rescheduled. Please take a look at the Club Diary section, above.

This weekend (20-21 June), we will play for the Age UK Shield – an 18 hole Stableford competition. Next weekend (27-28 June) will be the Queen Mother Shield, also an 18 hole Stableford competition. The player with the best aggregate Stableford score over the 36 holes, will win the very prestigious Montesole Cup. The Montesole Cup has been played for since 1947 and is the Club’s premier Stableford event of the season. Good luck to all who play. Here’s the roll of honour:

To all members of Rickmansworth Golf Club: Now that the course has re-opened, the Committee have decided to go ahead with club competitions on a trial basis. Two competitions will be run in the first instance. The first will be the Mid-week stableford competition on Thursday 28th May. The second will be the Alec Franks medal on Saturday/Sunday June 6th/7th. This competition will count as the Carter Cup qualifier.

NOTE: Cards will only be accepted for players who have paid their membership dues and affiliation fees for this year.

First, please note that no reserved tee times for Club members are available. Players will have to make their own tee time bookings. There will be no sign in sheets for the competitions. All that is required is that you submit your scores directly to Mick Rogers. Scorecards can be picked up at the desk where you register for your round. No competition fees will be collected so no prizes will be awarded for these competitions.

Golf course status update

At this time, Rickmansworth Golf Course remains CLOSED due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The latest news from Everyone Active (golf course operator of Rickmansworth Golf Course) is that the course may POSSIBLY open on Wednesday 20th May. There is as yet no confirmation of that date, nor any news on how the booking system will operate. Therefore, a little more patience is needed before we can get out and hit the fairways again. As soon as we hear anything definite we will e-mail all club members and post the information here on the club website.

A story to make you laugh

The attached story is from Len Silver, long time member of Rickmansworth Golf Club.

Hope you are all well.  Really missing the golf!

Those who know me know that I started playing at Ricky in 1965 and joined as a member of the club in 1968. In those far off days you could not book times as you can now, but had to put balls in a chute and wait your turn. As a member of the club we had a system. We took it in turns on a rota basis to get up at 4.00 am, and put a number of balls in the chute for the club members on a Sunday morning. See attached to explain this.

Regards to you all,

Len Silver.

AGM – postponed

The Club’s AGM, due to be held at 7.30pm Thursday 19th March 2020 has been postponed. Once a new date is arranged a new announcement will be made. Stay safe everyone!
