Billy Moffatt wins The Chairman’s Prize

Today saw the Rickmansworth members gather for the 3rd ‘major’ of the year, The Chairman’s Prize. The day was hosted by Dave Miles and it was clear to see a lot of hard work and planning had gone into his annual day. A fabulous round of 49 points from one of our most popular members Billy Moffatt won him a nice glass trophy. Playing off his 23 handicap, Billy took full advantage of the tournament’s ‘Powerplay’ theme by doubling his scores on the 6th hole and in particular the 12th where a par bagged him 8 points! to streak clear of the field.

Result:

  1. Billy Moffatt – 49 points
  2. Ben Plumridge – 46 points
  3. Vic Meakes – 46 points

The Chairman would like to thank  everyone  for playing today, we had a very good turnout with some great scores returned. There were 4 nearest the pin prizes up for grabs, the winners being:

  • Hole 5: John Jones
  • Hole 7: Graham Farmer
  • Hole 13: Ian Smithard
  • Hole 17: Archie Ahmed

Hole 2A made a rare apprearance today just for a shot at nearest the pin for the Chairman’s Charity, and in doing so reminded everyone just how much of a tricky hole she is. 92 yards downhill on to a firm green had most players shooting to the back of the green, but a very good shot by Ann Paris to about 4 feet was good enough to win. Well done Ann.

Some extra prizes were presented by Dave and they were the prize for ‘the best score by a guest’ and that was taken by 1999’s Club Captain Glyn Halliday, making a very welcome visit back to the Club, and the best ladies score was won by this year’s Ladies Vice-Captain, Sherril Bryden with 33 points. David Hirst was a worthy winner of the nearest the pin from the bunker fun challenge which was held after the round in the Ricky Academy.
A grand total of £ 273 was raised for The Chairman’s Charity – The Peace Hospice – so many thanks to everyone for supporting the day.

Chairman’s Day reminder !

This Sunday coming (29th July) is the date for Rickmansworth Golf Club’s 3rd ‘major’ of the year – The Chairman’s Day Prizes – and we now have 43 names confirmed to play. This is a very good turn out, approximately 1/3 of the Club.
All tee times for Chairmans day are now pushed forward 16 mins, so the 1st tee off is 8.00 a.m.
Therefore, if you were 08.16, you are now 08.00 and so on.
There are still a few places left, so if you haven’t already got a time then please put your name up on the board or contact Dave Miles to register your interest and you will be accommodated.
The Chairman is looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday and reminds everyone that there are Sandwiches and chips included for all individual groups – so no excuses for dashing off and missing the prize giving!

Bourne Vanneck Final disappointment…

Rickmansworth were represented at the National Final of the NAPGC Men’s Team Championships on Saturday at Thornbury GC in Bristol. 18 teams took part, all having qualified at the 6 regional qualifiers back in June. On a bright, sunny day the course was set up well with some tricky pin
placements and very fast greens, despite the recent terrible weather.

Most of the teams playing were filled by single figure golfers so the standard was high and competition tough with a few teams even bringing caddies. Captain Dave Watson led out the Rickmansworth team in the 2nd grouping of the day, with a large crowd gathered around the 1st tee.

Unfortunately, despite posting some good scores we did not manage to win the Bourne Vanneck Shield or the runner’s up Cup. Our score of 329 strokes saw us finish just outside the top 5. For the full table of results you can click here (full result to come…)

Well done to the team, a solid effort and great experience gained. We’ll come back stronger next year!

Nick Symonds wins The Captain’s Away Day

Rickmansworth GC Captain's Away Day

Nick Symonds continued his excellent form of late with a brilliant 5 over par round of 77 to record 41 points today in the annual Captain’s Away Day, this year held at one of the best courses in Hertfordshire – West Herts Golf Club. West Herts was the venue for the recent Herts County Championship and the course was again in excellent condition, considering the recent poor weather and it was certainly praised by all who played today. The weather was again disappointing considering it’s mid July, but it’s pretty much what we have come to expects these days! Grey skies and on-off drizzle was the order of the day, as Nick set about taking the course apart off his 10 handicap with a whopping 22 points on the way out, and topping up with another 19 points coming home, crowned with a birdie 4 on the last. Well played Nick!
