Colin Timms

I have three pieces of excellent news to impart re our very good friend Colin Timms. I’ll leave it to you to decide on their order of importance…

Excellent News 1: An anonymous report has reached me which stated – and I quote – “On Tuesday July 23rd 2013, Colin Timms shot a gross score, off the white tees, of less than his age.” (Contrary to many members’ belief, it wasn’t 95, but 72 – 3 less than his age!) Off his official handicap, it would have been a net 56. But unfortunately, during the thunderstorms, a few spots of rain fell on his scorecard, making it unsuitable for handing in for handicap assessment.

Such a feat hasn’t even been achieved by such illustrious persons as our Chairman and course record holder Dave Miles, Dave Watson, Anthony Light, the Wallace boys, David Hirst or Ben Plumridge (who was a witness to the event).

Excellent News 2: Colin has been advised by his doctor that he is clear of all cancer.

Excellent News 3: He only went and did it again! Not content with one amazing round, on Saturday July 27th, Colin shot ANOTHER round of 72!

Huge congrats from everyone, Colin. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy! Cheers!

Ricky win Scratch Cup at Bourne Vanneck Final; & B Team runners up….

Bourne Vanneck 2013 winners Ricky Scratch & stiffs - all winners!

NAPGC Bourne Vanneck National Final

Venue; High Elms Golf Club, Orpington, Kent

Result: Champions!

Nearly seventy golf clubs took part in this national competition and our scratch team put in a magnificent display to come out as overall winners.
The team of Dave Watson who shot a stunning gross level par round, Ben Plumridge 5 over gross, Anthony Light 5 over gross and Simon Jackson 6 over, gave Rickmansworth one of it’s best days in its seventy year history. These scores from our boys were superb on a very hard and testing golf course. This was shown to be the case as the next team were a whopping 21 strokes behind us. As Captain it was a very proud moment to see our boys go and lift the trophy.

As for our B team, affectionately known as the ” Stiffs”, we actually came runners up in the nett competition. The team made up of Graham Farmer, Denis Curran, Danny Simmons and Mick Rogers were just pipped for the top spot by two strokes. A steward’s inquiry to whose fault it was we lost by this margin went nowhere (!) as nearly all of us had a quadruple bogey on a hole somewhere along the line on what was really a tough course for the higher handicappers but we showed great resolve to put the bad holes behind us and nearly all played to our club handicaps to finish credible runners up.

Well done both teams!

More success for Ricky Men at NAPGC !

Rickmansworth players’s fine form of late continued at the NAPGC’s Men’s Championship on Saturday. Held at local course Farnham Park, Anthony Light managed a level par round of 70 to win the scratch division by 4 strokes. Simon Jackson also played terrifically well to shoot a 1-over-par 71, the lowest gross score of division 2, to seal his place at  the National Final at Woodhall Spa in August. Anthony has now been cut to 4 and Simon down to 5. Well done guys! Fantastic play again!
