Clapham victory v Haste Hill

Rickmansworth’s Clapham Common Team progressed to the semi-finals today after a good win versus local rivals Haste Hill. In very warm conditions, both the Ricky teams coped well with the conditions presented and managed a fine win by 148 – 128 points, in the greensomes format.

At home, our pairs of Dave Miles & Mick Rogers and Ian Lewis & Ashley Pearce scored very well to open up a big lead. The away team of Danny Simmonds & Dave Watson and Ben Plumridge & Graham Farmer also wracked up good scores on the quick Haste Hill greens.

Well done to all who represented our Club again as we look forward to a meeting with Ruislip in the semi final.

Captains Away Day Report

Aldenham Golf and Country Club was the venue for this year’s Captains Away Day. 24 golfers from Rickmansworth arrived for coffee and surely the biggest bacon roll in Watford in time to be greeted by light drizzle and clouds overhead. Players were seeded according to handicap and the four balls were drawn in time for the first tee time. Gerald Hirst’s team got events underway as the rest of the teams went through their warm-up routines. A heavy rain shower was followed by some bright sunshine as the teams made their way around the course and it’s many challenges. Hole 13 was the monster at 594 yards and holes 5 and 15 featured large strategically placed trees to negotiate. Players arrived back at the clubhouse just before the final rain outbreak of the day.

Scores were collected and after a light lunch the results were known. Gary ‘Jimenez’ Sippetts had left his fine crop of hair and cigar at home and replaced them with new spectacles, giving him ‘laser’ vision. The effect was obvious, Gary running out winner of the top stableford prize with 36 points and grabbing a nearest the pin prize to boot. Runner up was Graham Stewart and lowest gross score, making a guest appearance, was Anthony Light. The team prize went to Gary and Graham together with Rob Camilleri and Graham Farmer and the three remaining nearest the pin prizes were collected by Anthony, Danny Simmonds and John Gwilt. I’m sure everyone enjoyed the course and I’d like to thank them for making this a memorable occasion.

Herts Friendly League away at Stevenage

The trip up the A1 to Stevenage proved to be a tough but enjoyable challenge. On a cloudy but warm day the team played an unbeaten Stevenage team on a course which was in good condition and contained five par 5s and a number of water hazards.

In spite of Rob Camilleri and Denis Curran getting 40 points and Dave Miles and Mick Rogers top scoring with 44, all our pairs went down and the match was lost 183–215 points. Our players commented on how they had enjoyed playing the course and although we were defeated, the team had appreciated a fine day’s golf.

Senior match result v Haste Hill

Rickmansworth’s Seniors hosted Haste Hill yesterday in a friendly match – which we regrettably lost by 4 games to 2. The actual game results were 1 won, 2 halved and 3 lost – as you can see from the copy results sheet attached.  Results sheet
We had a very pleasant day in beautiful weather and our visitors were very impressed by the condition of the course and the quality of the food.
We welcomed Roger Jones as a team member for the first time and I was very grateful to Colin Timms who I had to call upon at the last minute to play in place of an original team member who had to drop out.
