Men’s League report – Little Hay

Rickmansworth secured their second win in the Herts Friendly League after beating Little Hay 210 – 202 points on a capricious August day. Hurricane Bertha had done her worst; rain leaving the greens receptive with just enough wind to make club selection a factor. Midweek medal first and second place pair Bernie White and Bob Horton just edged ahead as did the buggy boy racers Roy Prue and Basil Biggs. 44 points by the steady pairing of Dave Miles and Rob Camilleri might have taken the sweep but John Shamoon and I secured the prize with 46 points. A steady all round team effort ensured we maintained our unbeaten home record as we look to play our last away match at Batchwood Hall in early September.

Disappointment in the Clapham

Rickmansworth faced Ruislip in the regional semi-final of the Clapham Common Trophy on Saturday 2nd August, hoping to continue their progress to the national final.

Our away pairs scored well giving us a great chance but, in spite of good scores by our home pairs, the team were undone by a pairing which included a big hitter. Reducing the short Rickmansworth course to a smash and grab playground, he hit drives which made the 5th, 9th and 14th greens and hit through the 11th. For the second time this season Rickmansworth lost on count back leaving us to lick our wounds until next season. Well done to all those who represented the Club again this year.

Shaded out by Richmond Park

The home leg of the friendly match against Richmond Park on  26th July was a tight match, ending in a 3-3 draw. Having lost 2-4 in London we were left to give our congratulations to the victorious Richmond team as they regained the annual trophy from Rickmansworth for the first time since 2006.

The post match lunch went some way in easing the pain of the defeat as we wished our visitors a safe journey home. Stefan Kunka, Captain 2014.

Seniors beaten at Oakland Park

Following quickly on after the mixed match, the Senior Men’s team returned to Oakland Park on Wednesday 6th August. The home team more than avenged their 4-2 loss at Rickmansworth going one better than their emphatic victory in the mixed match by completing a 6-0 whitewash.

League result v Panshanger (A)

Saturday 9th August saw Rickmansworth narrowly beaten at Panshanger in the Herts Friendly League. The course had benefitted from some overnight rain, and conditions were warm and a light breeze added extra spice. Our team enjoyed the 6342 yard, par 72 course in the north east of Hertfordshire close to the River Mimram, but just fell short of claiming a valuable result. In spite of a sweep-winning 46 points by Dave Miles and Rob Camilleri, the team were edged out 202 – 204 points. After match drinks with the hosts in the clubhouse overlooking the 18th green ended the day.
