Advice from Complex manager…

With immediate effect, Winter Rules (Preferred Lies) are in operation on the golf course. The white tee markers have been removed from the course to allow greater protection throughout this coming winter. We have also increased the height of cut on greens and therefore players may experience slower greens in the coming weeks. Members are allowed to play their winter knockout matches from the permanent white posts, but regular club competitions will continue to be played from the yellow markers.

Needle Shield report

Batchwood Hall were the hosts for this year’s Herts Friendly League Needle Shield. The club was founded in 1935 and J H Taylor, five times Open Champion designed the challenging parkland course. Heavy overhead clouds threatened rain all through the day and the wind, strong at times, made for some thoughtful considerations in club selection. Buzzards and Red Kites circled overhead and Parakeets flew amongst the trees as our players made their way around the 6468 yard course.

After almost seven hours of golf all the players were home and the team scores were totalled. Vice-Captain Danny Simmonds top scored for Rickmansworth with 36 points and 6 players had scores in the 30’s but this wasn’t good enough on the day. Unfortunately Rickmansworth could only make 348 points in total and the winning team, Batchwood, scored 409 points to take the Shield. Stevenage Golf Club were announced as the winners of the 2014 Herts Friendly League, with Rickmansworth just avoiding bottom slot above Panshanger. It has been a steep learning curve for the team but I hope the competitive spirit of the league has encouraged our players to continue to support the club in this competition.

Colin Timms’ new knees

Some people will go to any lengths to improve their handicap…Colin reckons the answer for him is new knees !!
…anyway the latest from his rehabilitation centre is as follows:-

”As some of you may know I had both my knees replaced on 2nd October. I am doing very well, only problem I had was at the pool – kept walking on it! I then told one of Mr Prue’s jokes and sank like a stone. They had had enough of me by Monday and sent me home. Sylvia had locked me out but I managed to get in through the bedroom window. Thanks for the two cards inscribed with love, hate and downright abuse, and, in spite of which……… I SHALL BE BACK  !!! Missing you all ..CT

Change of date for Beaver Kaye

Please note that the Beaver Kaye Memorial Trophy will be re-scheduled to the weekend of 25/26 October, due to Rickmansworth’s involvement in the Herts Friendly League Needle Shield event at Batchwood.

Seniors last match of the season

Rickmansworth Seniors completed their season on October 1st with a match against Haste Hill on neutral territory, South Buckinghamshire, looking to retain the Challenge Shield which Rickmansworth won last year after four consecutive defeats. Haste Hill, having won both the home and away matches earlier in the season completed the hat-trick with the best win of the three, 5½ to ½, so taking the Shield back into their possession.
