Senior’s victory…

The Ricky Seniors met Chartridge Park at home on Tuesday 25th August, a day which started better than the weather forecast threatened but delivered the promised rain in the end. While the Captains, as first out, got back in the dry, the rest returned in ever increasing states of wetness. The threat of the rain clearly encouraged many of the Ricky players to get the games done and dusted quickly, the best result being an 8 and 6 win for Roy Prue and Dominic Nichol. And that result was delivered despite Roy’s birdie on the third not being good enough for even a half. Overall the result was the same as at Chartridge, a five-one win for the home team. Geoff Wood…R.I.P.

It is with much regret that we pass on the very sad news that one of the Club’s favourite members Geoff Wood, passed away last Friday following illness. A lot of members enjoyed his company and will be upset to hear the news. Geoff was a popular member of the Club, often playing both on a Saturday and Sunday morning and was the Captain’s Player of the Year in 2007.

Geoff’s great friend Eric Pearce will organise a collection, with all money going to Watford Peace Hospice where Geoff stayed for his last few days. Rest in peace Geoff, from all your friends at Rickmansworth Golf Club.

Spot the ball…

Most members will have heard legendary stories of Rob Camilleri’s remarkable escapes from difficult positions all over the golf course, but on Sunday even Rob couldn’t play an escape from this lie….

HFL match report

Rickmansworth played Panshanger on Saturday 7th August in the HFL. The day was warm and sunny with Panshanger being in very good condition. Some very good scores came from Rickmansworth! Special mention goes to David Hirst, who finished one under par for his round! David and Peter Maestas came home with 48 points winning the sweep,  narrowly beating Danny Simmonds and Mick Rogers who scored 47. Unfortunately Rickmansworth were defeated by only five points. Well done lads, better luck next time.
The next match is at home to Little Hay this Saturday at 9am so please sign up if you are able to play.

Senior’s Oakland Park report

The Seniors played the return match at Oakland Park on Wednesday 5th August with high hopes of an away win having won at home in April by 5 and a half to a half.  However those hopes were dashed, not least by Oakland’s Captain who lit the afterburners on the back nine which he played just one over par gross.  There was some comfort for Ricky though with an aggregate win having gone down by 2-4
