Men’s matches update…

Rickmansworth played two fixtures earlier this month, both in the Herts Friendly League. First up was an away trip to Batchwood Hall. Some good scores were had by the Ricky team, most notably 39 points by both Mick Rogers & Bernie White and Archie & John Shamoon, but a great score of 44 points from Batchwood’s last group gave them a very well earned victory 204-188. The sweep winners on countback were Bernie & Mick. Well done.

A week later Rickmansworth hosted Panshanger under relentless rain. The groups teed off in a must win game if Ricky would have any chance of winning the league. And the team did not disappoint winning 214-210. There were some amazing scores considering the weather; 46 points from David Hirst and Rob Camillieri, but the sweep winners were the father and son pair of Martin and Peter Bartlett with an incredible 49 points. A special thank you to Martin Bartlett who did the speech at the end due to me not being able to stay.

After that victory it means it’s winner takes all at Bushey Golf and Country Club on Saturday 24th September. Bushey already have two away wins under their belt and lie in 2nd spot only to us on points difference, but have home advantage which leaves them favourites to win the league. If Ricky could somehow manage an away win then Ricky would win the league on points difference. Click here for 2016 Men’s results

Seniors’ results update – closing in on the Four Clubs Trophy

After a three week break, Ricky Seniors resumed their matches with a home friendly against Chartridge Park on Tuesday 23rd August. Ricky were looking to go some way to reversing a 5½-½ defeat at Chartridge earlier in the season. With five wins in the first five pairings things looked promising. All depended on Roy Prue and Bas Biggs in the final game and they brought home the bacon winning the 18th hole to end one up and give Ricky a clean sweep 6-0.

A week later another Tuesday match saw Bushey Country Club visiting for a match in the 4 Clubs Trophy. The three remaining fixtures in this league all involve Ricky and three wins would see us regaining the Trophy from Shendish Manor. The first step was completed successfully with a 5-1 victory over Bushey.

Continuing their quest to regain the Four Clubs Trophy, the Seniors visited Shendish Manor on Tuesday 6th September.  A Shendish win would give them the trophy notwithstanding Ricky’s remaining match against Bushey Country Club. Having drawn 3-3 at Ricky earlier in the season the odds were on Shendish. The odds were shorter still when Captain Frank Haines went down 4 and 3 despite the efforts of his partner Dominic Nichol.  However, this was the only defeat with Ricky taking four of the remaining matches and halving the other to win 4½-1½.

The result left Rickmansworth, Shendish and Little Hay each on seven points, in the table for the Four Clubs Trophy. A points tie will be decided by matches won. Ricky have 19 match wins against Shendish’s 19.5. Any result other than a 6-0 whitewash for Bushey CC on 27th September will see Rickmansworth regaining the Four Club trophy.
