Rickmansworth v Little Hay HFL Match Report – played on 22-Apr-2017

The expectation this year was high as Rickmansworth beat Little Hay in our previous away match the year before, so an away win this year would set Ricky up for a good HFL season. The weather was fine and the enthusiasm was high, and so we teed off. First match came in with a draw with 43 points, very evenly matched and there was never more than a point either way the whole way around. Match 2 result was a big win for Ricky with 45 points to Little Hay’s 35 points, a 10 point lead was established and it was looking good. Match 3 was a win to Little Hay with 41 points to Ricky’s 39 points, Rickmansworth still holding an 8 point lead with 2 more matches to come in. Match 4 was a slightly larger win for Little Hay with 44 points to Ricky’s 38 points, getting closer but Rickmansworth still holding a very slender lead of 2 points. Once again, it was down to the last match. Rickmansworth’s team came in with 41 points, an excellent away score, unfortunately Little Hay came in with 44 points which gave Little Hay a 3 point advantage in the match, which also gave Little Hay a 1 point win on the day with a score of 207 points, to Rickmansworth’s 206 points. Well done to David Watson and Martin Bartlett who won the day’s sweep, and a big thank you to all the players for your continued support.

Emphatic win for Ricky Seniors

Ricky Seniors entertained Oakland Park for the third match of the season on Tuesday 24th April, a day which turned out to be much better in terms of weather than the predicted bright start with showers later. The sun shone all the way especially on most of the Rickmansworth team who won four and a half to one and a half. The score understates the efforts of the Rickmansworth team who won two matches seven up, one six up and the fourth four up, while the single defeat was lost on the last hole. John Murphy and John Wright were stars of the show romping home seven and six.

To all members of Rickmansworth Golf Club from all sections: Men, Ladies, Seniors…Club Day is almost here. Saturday 6th May is the big day of the year, all details attached.

Rickmansworth v Meyrick Park Friendly Match Report – played on 08-Apr-2017

The first of our friendly matches this year was the away match at Meyrick Park Golf Club, which always seems to be a popular venue. Meyrick Park tried to get an early advantage by filling us up with a very large and tasty breakfast, just before the first tee. After 18 holes of fantastic golf on a glorious day, the first scores started to come in. Rickmansworth played well and the first two matches were halved, so one each with 4 matches yet to come in. Match 3 was a win for Rickmansworth, as was Match 4. It was all looking good to take an early lead to take back to the home match at Rickmansworth. Meyrick Park won the 5th Match, so it was all down to the last pair to see if we leave Meyrick Park even, or if Rickmansworth can take home a lead. The 6th Match result went to Rickmansworth, which gave us a fantastic 4-2 win, and a lead to wrestle the Meyricky Bowl away from Meyrick Park in 2017. The sweep was won by Mick Rogers and Jake Jacobson with a score of 48 points, well done to Mick and Jake! We now look forward to the return leg on the 8th of July, where a draw or a win will bring the trophy back to Rickmansworth Golf Club. Once again, a big Thank You to all the players, what a fantastic result!

Seniors’ away match result

The Seniors played their second match of the season away to Chartridge Park  April 10th.  It was a much more closely fought contest after last year’s ½-5½ defeat, but Ricky still went down, this time 2½-3½, not least through losing both the matches that were decided on the last hole.  Congratulations to Roy Prue and Mike Mortlock who were the big winners, 5&4 and to the other winners, Tom Moore and John Gwilt who are still trying to work out how they recovered from being five down to record a 3 and 1 win.
