Seniors defeated in local derby

On a glorious summer’s day Tuesday 22nd May Ricky Seniors renewed their old rivalry with Haste Hill buoyed by having won the Shield match back in October. Things didn’t start too well with captain Frank Haines and his partner Ken Pragnell losing the first two holes. Steady play brought them back to all square on the 17th when a couple of outrageous strokes of luck and a rock steady downhill putt from Ken not only gave Ricky the lead but completely knocked the stuffing out of the opposition who lost the last hole too. But that was the last of the good news as Ricky lost the next two matches on the 18th green and the final three matches by ever greater margins to go down 1-5.

Seniors’ match report

The Seniors continued their defence of the Four Clubs Trophy on Tuesday 16th May with a home game against Shendish Manor. Bob Horton captained Ricky to a 4-2 victory, leading the team by example with a four and three victory ably abetted by John Jackson. Though it’s early days, Ricky now head the Four Clubs table with two wins from two matches.

NAPGC Hawtree Match Report – played on 30-Apr-2017

The first of the NAPGC matches in 2017 was the Hawtree Trophy, which is a Mixed Greensomes Stableford competition and this year it was played away at Haste Hill Golf Club. We knew it would be a difficult one to win as an away venue sways the advantage to the home club, but the Rickmansworth teams gathered on the day with best intentions in mind. Having given our best efforts and some great golf having been played, we came away with a loss. The scores were tallied up and the outcome was 148 points to Haste Hill Golf Club and 110 points to Rickmansworth Golf Club. We hope to be back again next year, but maybe with a home draw and a win. I believe that some new friendships were made on the day, and from me a big thank you to all the Rickmansworth players, Joan McLaughlin, B Arlow, Mary Harris, Ann Loughman, Rob Camilleri, Ian Mackie and Jake Jacobson for supporting this fantastic competition.

Seniors victorious on the road!

The Seniors travelled to Huntswood for their fourth match of the season on 4th May, which turned out to be an unseasonably cold day with a keen easterly wind. Rob Camilleri and Bob Cantwell were debutants for the team who went one better than last year. In fact they were one and a half better scoring a 4½ to 1½ win, compared with a three-all draw the previous year. The days’ stars with a four and three win were the Murphy ‘brothers’ John and Dennis (though John insists they are more like father and son than brothers!)
