Rickmansworth v Meyrick Park Friendly Match Report – played on 04-Nov-2017

***Apologies from the website editor – the last men’s match report of the season was overlooked!***

The match that nearly wasn’t, was finally played on the 4th of November after two cancellations due to a shortage of players, from Ricky the first time, and then from Meyrick Park the second. So, finally on a rainy November morning we all sat down to a very nice full English breakfast which got us all off to a good start. After several holes of wet weather, the liquid stopped falling and it turned into a very nice day, both weather-wise and playing wise. Rickmansworth were 4-2 up from the away match at Meyrick, so the task of winning was made easier but with the Meyrick Park team on form, you just never know as they came to Ricky and won last year taking the trophy back to Meyrick. After all the scores had come in, and with some nervous moments, it was clear that Rickmansworth, at Fortress Rickmansworth had prized the trophy from Meyrick Park in fine fashion. The final result was a 3½-2½ home win, making the overall match score Rickmansworth 7½ – Meyrick Park 4½. The sweep was won by the first team out, Peter Maestas and Ian Mackie with a very healthy tally of 46 points. As this is the last match of 2017, I would like to extend a VERY LARGE thank you, to all the players who supported me this year and I hope you will give the same support to our 2018 Captain Martin Bartlett. Thanks again, and see you out on the course.

Captain’s message 2018

After playing Rickmansworth golf course for many years, my dad (Peter), brother (Lee) and I decided to join the club in the start of the 2016 season. Being a new member it was a great honour to be asked by Peter to be his Vice Captain in 2017 and to be the Captain of Rickmansworth Golf Club in 2018.

My family have been associated with Rickmansworth Golf Club for over 50 years. My grandad and his two brothers were members in the 1960s, with my great uncle Albert Bartlett being Captain exactly 50 years ago, in 1968. This is also the second time my dad has been a member as he was a junior member during this time.

Huge congratulations to Peter Maestas who captained the club in 2017. He has done a fantastic job, and I would like to say thank you and I hope to be able to follow in his footsteps and do the same this year.

I also would like to introduce this year’s Vice-Captain, Jake Jacobson. Jake will be helping me this year, and I’m sure will make a great Captain in 2019. I would also like to wish both the seniors and ladies Captains a fantastic season this year.

A mention must go to Jon Darby and his team. They are doing a fantastic job in the pro shop and looking after the course and I look forward to continue working with them this year.

Playing team golf in the club matches was new to me and I have thoroughly enjoyed the friendly competition against the other clubs. This was a great way as a new member to get to know the other members. For those members who have supported the club matches, I would like to ask for your support again this year. Any new members who would be interested in playing in the club matches, the matches are played in a friendly manner and are a good opportunity to play some different local courses. If interested please contact me or keep a look out on the club notice board and diary on the website.

As a captain I would like the general feel to be a “club” so I would like ask members to support the Rickmansworth Golf Course Pro Shop and The Fairway Inn. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and you will find the other members in there both before and after their rounds.

My Captain’s Charity is Bloodwise. My brother Lee, was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in 2015. I am pleased to say that he has the all clear now, this due to research that has been done and needs to continue to help improve future knowledge and treatments. Bloodwise have changed the world for people with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood disorders – but they won’t stop until every single one of the 38,000 people diagnosed with a blood cancer each year survives and can live their lives to the full.

You can support the Captain’s Charity by donating at my Captain’s day, or by visiting this link https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/martin-bartlett6

I hope as a club we can have fantastic year of golf in 2018, and I hope see you on the course!
