Rickmansworth v Ruislip NAPGC Clapham Common Shield Match Report Sun 27th May 2018

With a bye in the first round, we drew Ruislip in the second round. This was going to be a hard draw as they have gone far in this competition the last few seasons.

Checking the weather forecast on Saturday it didn’t look good as thunder and lighting was forecast for Sunday morning. I was taking the home side and Jake was taking the away side. It turned out to be a very hot and muggy day.

From both sides there was some really good golf being played which led to a tight finish with us being on the phone to the away team waiting for the last match to come in. Unfortunately though we didn’t quite have enough on this occasion and we lost 219-223.

Thanks again for all the support in this match.

Rickmansworth v Aylesbury Friendly Away Match Report Sat 19th May 2018

With the Captain being away for this match the Vice Captain Jake Jacobson stepped in to run the match against Aylesbury.

It is another year that their course has survived the HS2 threat and everyone turned up ready for the full English Breakfast to start the day, which I am told was very good. The weather was just about perfect for playing golf and the results showed this, with all pairings scoring over 36 points on an away course. We had 2 groups in with a fantastic 46 points, Peter Bartlett and Peter Maestas were the first pair out of the 2 in the clubhouse but they were pipped on the back 9 by the last pair in Mick Rogers and David Wills.

All this great golf lead to Rickmansworth having a 3½ to 2½ lead going into the return fixture at Rickmansworth later in the year.

Thank you again to Jake for stepping in and all the players that played.

Seniors’ away victory

Ricky Seniors looked to consolidate their top position in the Four Clubs League on Monday 21st May with an away match against newcomers to the league Batchwood Hall. It looked to be a tough proposition with Batchwood fielding five players with handicaps of sixteen or less, while all but one of Ricky’s players’ handicaps were in the twenties. However the early results were encouraging with the first three groups home recording two wins and a half. The next two pairs lost, leaving a nervous wait on the outcome of the last match. We need not have worried as Darryl Nunn and Steve Browning came in with the best result of the day, a four and two win confirming an away win for Ricky by 3½ to 2½.

Seniors’ update…

Rickmansworth Seniors played their third match of the season on May 3rd away to Huntswood with some optimism having won there in 2017. However, the optimism was misplaced with Huntswood reversing the previous year’s result and winning 4½-1½. Leon Kelly and Roy Prue were Ricky’s face savers with a 3 and 2 win, while Allan Macdonald and Ian Brown chipped in with a half.

After two away matches Ricky Seniors returned home on May 8th for a friendly match against Oakland Park and a return to winning ways with a 4-2 victory. Ian Brown and Steve Browning were the star performers with a resounding 6 and 5 win.

On May 15th Ricky Seniors played a key match in the Four Clubs Cup at home to Shendish Manor, the cup holders. This was the second match for Ricky in this year’s competition, having beaten Little Hay. Darryl Nunn, playing in the first match, got Ricky off to a great start closing out a tight match with two pars on the difficult 15th and 16th. Roy Prue and Ian Brown followed up with the biggest win of the day by 5 and 4. The victories kept coming resulting in a 6-0 whitewash for Ricky, with Club Day winner Steve Browning and Vic Meakes winning with the last putt of their match.
