Rickmansworth v Little Hay HFL Away Match Report Sat 18th August 2018

After last weekend’s away win, the team knew if we could get another away win in this match we would be in a great position leaving us 2 home matches in September.

It was a cloudy and very windy day which is not what we have been used to this year, but this didn’t stop some great golf being played. The first 2 groups came in with 42 points each, but home advantage told in these matches with our opponents having 45 and 48 respectively, meaning we were 9 points down after 2 groups. I was still confident with the players we had to come in that we had a good chance to still get something out of the match.

The 3rd group did not disappoint as they came in with 44 points to Little Hay’s 41, reducing the gap down to 6 points, and the 4th group again brought home the points with 42 points to 39 points. This left us needing 3 points for a draw and 4 for the win from the last group. With all the players in the clubhouse getting wind of the situation they were poised watching the last green.

When the last group had confirmed their match result being 40 points to us and 36 points to Little Hay meaning we got the win for a 2nd weekend in a row by 1 point, 210-209.

A big well done to the team as for the 2nd weekend in a row we had all 5 groups with 40+ points away from home. Herts Friendly League fixtures & results 2018

Well done to Ben Plumridge and Rob Camilleri who won the sweep with 44 points and kindly donated their winnings to the Captain’s Charity.

Thank you to all that played.

Ricky seniors away win at Haste Hill

Rickmansworth Seniors played their latest game of the season on Tuesday 14th August away at Haste Hill. The match kicked off at 9.00am in the sunshine after a welcoming hot drink. Our hosts had some concerns about their greens, which added to the days challenges, but a close competitive match ensued.

The match got off to a good start as Clive Bennett impressed with 9 pars to support the stand in captain (Darryl Nunn) to a 2&1 victory. From there the two teams traded results to leave the score at 2½ points each with the final match still on the course. The spoils finally went to Rickmansworth as Steve Browning and Trevor Spencer came in with a 4&3 victory in that last match to leave a final score of 3½ to 2½.

So another impressive away win for our Seniors, well done.

Rickmansworth v Batchwood HFL Away Match Report Sat 11th August 2018

With a strong team we turned up knowing that with only 2 away matches left, an away win this week or next week at Little Hay was essential if we want to have a chance of winning the league.

A rest bite from the really hot weather was forecast and the conditions were perfect for golf, with a heavy downpour on Friday evening to soften the course a little bit.

As the round was going on I was getting whispers from the other groups that Rickmansworth were playing well. Rickmansworth took a 4 point lead after the first group returned, and a 6 point lead once the second group had come in. The third group came in played a close match but was down by 1 point, so Ricky still had a 5 point lead. The fourth group again had a close match but was down by 2 points meaning Ricky had a 3 point lead with 1 group to come in. There was a tense atmosphere in the clubhouse and when John and Stefan handed me their card with a disappointed look on their face I was starting to worry, but although they were down in the match they played a fantastic round and kept pace with the home pairing who posted 45 points and they managed to bring in 43 points meaning they were only down by 2 points which gave us a much deserved away win by 1 point and the final result being 205 Batchwood to 206 Rickmansworth. John Shamoon and Stefan Kunka won our sweep with that 43 points in the last match and kindly donated their winnings to my charity.

Thank you to all that played

Rickmansworth v Panshanger HFL Away Match Report Sat 4th August 2018

This away HFL match is always a popular one as Panshanger is a great course and it didn’t disappoint.

Again it was a hot day with the sun out for the whole day, but I knew with the strength of the Ricky team the standard of golf would be high.

We gave Panshanger a good run for their money on their home course but unfortunately we lost 195 to 204.

Our sweep was won by myself and Rob Camilleri with a good away score of 42 points (even with this we managed to come in with a loss of 5 points in our pairings 42 to 47!).

Thanks again to all that played. HFL results 2018

Rickmansworth v Aylesbury – Saturday 21st July 2018 – Home Friendly

This match was the return fixture in this friendly match. With Rickmansworth having a 3½ to 2½ lead from the away match, I was confident that the team could get the minimum of 3 points needed to retain the trophy. With both myself and my Vice captain unavailable for this match, club President Dave Miles took the reigns for this match. I would like to say a thank you to Dave for doing this for me. From what I hear Ricky was in fantastic condition and the golf being played by both teams matched. Home advantage again really told with Rickmansworth winning 5 to 1 meaning an 8½ to 3½ overall result.

In the sweep the first group of Dave Miles and Ben Plumridge had the winning total with 49 points. I would like to say a big thank you to Dave and Ben as they both donated their winnings to my charity Bloodwise.

Thanks again for all the support.
