Victory in final Herts Friendly League Match

Panshanger were the visitors in the final league match in the Herts Friendly League on Saturday 13th September. Much of the conversation before the match got underway was about the tidy course and improved bunker conditions. Some talk was about the speed of the greens and even the home players were hoping they weren’t the racetracks they had been over the previous weekend.

A gentle morning watering proved helpful as players racked up the points and both teams scored freely. As the last pairs returned home, Rickmansworth were just ahead and the score in the last fourball improved our lead, resulting in a final 225-215 point victory. The pairing of Mick Rogers and Denis Curran had inflicted much of the early damage as they amassed 51 points, earning them the sweep prize ahead of Danny Simmonds and Roy Prue with 47 points. A handful of games remain for other teams and our final league position is still unknown. It has been an enjoyable first year in the league and we hope that we can give a good account of ourselves in the Needle Shield at Batchwood Hall in October.
