Seniors round off season’s home matches in style

Rickmansworth Seniors played their final home match of the season against Bushey Country Club on Tuesday 29th August. We were looking to set up a ‘grand finale’ of the Four Clubs Trophy against Shendish Manor the following week by beating Bushey.  The task was duly accomplished quite comfortably in the end but with some worrisome moments on the way. Captain Frank Haines and his partner managed to let a four hole lead on the twelfth tee slip away to all square after the sixteenth. Huge sighs of relief could be heard as their opponents missed a four footer to tie the match on the 18th. When the second Ricky pairing came in with a loss the worst fears of a home defeat were beginning to surface. However, the next group of Eric Erabadda and Roger Jones settled the nerves with the best win of the day. Eric followed up his 7 and 6 in the last match with a resounding 9 and 8 win. They were followed in by three more winning pairs to give Ricky a 5-1 victory.

The result leaves Ricky and Shendish both on six points in the Four Clubs League with next Tuesday’s match between the two clubs at Shendish to decide the winner. A tied match would give Ricky the title by virtue of having won more individual matches over the season.
