Needle Shield played at Bushey Country Club 14-Oct-2017

This year’s Needle Shield was played at Bushey Country Club, a 9 hole golf course, which made the start somewhat interesting. We all teed off from different holes; 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th, with 2-3, 4 balls at each hole in a kind of shotgun start, but different. Three holes in, I was notified that one of our players had sustained a hand injury and could not continue with the match, so Rickmansworth were down to a team of 9 healthy players. When the scores were totted up at the end, it was clear that Ricky would not be winning the Needle Shield in 2017. We limped home with 266 points, but even with 9 players we did not finish last. The winners on the day were Bushey Country Club, with a very healthy points tally. The day finished with a very nice meal and of course a few drinks, for some to celebrate and others to commiserate. A big thank you to all the players, it was a long day and I very much appreciate you giving up your time and giving Rickmansworth Golf Club your fantastic support. There was no sweep on this occasion, but the Rickmansworth high scorer on the day was Mick Lee with 35 points.

Final results for the 2017 Needle Shield are below.

1) Bushey Country Club 356 points

2) Little Hay 293 points

3) Panshanger 285 points

4) Batchwood 274 points
