When I put the sign up sheet on the notice board with 64 spots available I thought I was being optimistic, but having to add additional tee times I was overwhelmed with all the support shown.

The weather forecast was looking fantastic for the day, so the meet and greet was able to be set up outside. The first players started arriving around 7.30, and first tee time was 7.50.

I would like to say thank you to my wife Antonia for meeting all the players as they arrived, signing them in and explaining the order of the day and then helping me on the drinks buggy.

Thank you to our Lady Captain Mary Harris for encouraging people to buy raffle tickets as they signed in.

There were additional competitions on the day which consisted of nearest the pin on 1st, 7th, 13th and 17th holes, longest drive on the 6th hole and nearest the pin in 2, on the 18th hole.

I also ran an additional comp on hole 2a which was a nearest the pin. Players had the option to pay £2 to enter and had a chance of winning half the pot, with the other half going to my charity. I would like to say thank you to Joan McLaughlin for being out on hole 2a to run this competition for me.

We had some great golf played with both the Men’s and Guest competitions being decided by count back and congratulations to B Arlow for making an eagle on the 14th hole.

The winners on the day were as follows:

Guest Winner: Will Rowan 40 Points

Ladies’ Winner: B Arlow – 38 Points

Men’s Winner: Jason Hewitson – 42 Points

Men’s Second: Denis Curran – 42 Points

Men’s Third: Paul Roffe – 41 Points

Nearest the pin 1st Hole: Rob Camilleri

Nearest the pin 7th Hole: Denis Curran

Nearest the pin 13th Hole: Barbara Jones

Nearest the pin  17th Hole: Mary Harris

Nearest the pin in 2 18th Hole: Jason Hewitson

Longest Drive 6th Hole: Danny Simmonds

The winner of the 2a competition was Vic Meakes who kindly donated £20 of his winnings back to the charity.

A thank you goes to Alec Franks as he won the 4 ball voucher for Aylesbury Park in the raffle which he kindly put up for auction and thanks to David Grace managed to raise another £85 for the charity.

I would like to say the biggest thank you to everyone that played and supported me on this day, your generosity has meant so much and I am pleased to confirm that we managed to raise £800 on the day.

Thanks again,

Martin Bartlett, Club Captain 2018
