All to play for at half way stage of Club Championships

This year’s Club Championships are being played over two consecutive weekends in the middle of August. We should be enjoying fine summer conditions, however, a lashing of heavy rain for 3 days solid prior to the first rounds was enough to change the course’s condition and unfortunately meant the greenstaff couldn’t cut the greens. The field of 43 set off all trying to put down a marker in the first round.

In the Scratch Cup, it was very close indeed at the top with great scores posted by the top players. Ian Roche and Captain Ben Plumridge lead the way at the half way marker having both shot rounds of three over par, 68. David Watson is next in with a 69, and Joe Brooks 72. Last year’s Champion Munir ‘Archie’ Ahmed is tied with Tom Moore and Craig Bartlett all with 73s.

The Rickmansworth Salver is also very close after the first 18 holes, with Craig Bartlett’s gross 73, nett 61 giving him a slender one shot lead on the chasing pack of Derek Nolan, Jim Bowles and Joe Brooks all with nett 62s. Four players are hot on the heals with nett 63s, with another 6 players just in behind with nett 64s all looking for solid rounds to keep the pressure on the leaders.

All will be revealed this coming weekend – August 22/23.
