The Golf Club

Welcome to Rickmansworth Golf Club…

Rickmansworth Golf Club is an independent, friendly club with about 150 members, comprising a Ladies section, a Men’s section and the Senior Men’s section (60 yo+) . The Club was established in 1944, so we are well established in the community. We are easily located in Rickmansworth, near to Moor Park, and close to Northwood and Watford. The Club is fully affiliated to the Herts Golf Union, The National Association of Public Golf Courses (NAPGC) and CONGU. All our members have official handicaps but you don’t need one if you’re thinking of joining us.

We do not own our own course but we play all of our competitions and our home matches at Rickmansworth Golf Course which is very well run by Hertsmere Leisure a charitable trust. The golf course was designed in 1923 by Harry Colt. Thanks to its location on the high ground overlooking Rickmansworth, the course is remarkably well drained and playable all year round. At first glance the yardage of the course seems on the short side, just 4656 yards from the white tees, however with 8 par 3s of differing length, and just the one par 5, scoring can be tough against the par of 65, and SSS of 63 (Par 66, SSS 64 for Ladies).

The course’s signature is undoubtedly the collection of small, undulating greens. Accuracy, and not length from the tee, is your main asset here!

We have a full and varied diary of competitions running all year round, from monthly Medals (weekends and mid-week) to Stableford and Bogey competitions. There are also numerous keenly-contested season-long knockouts, with tournaments catering for both lower and higher handicap players. Our Men’s team has recently been very successful in some national competitions, in 2011 winning the NAPGC’s Ellis Cup, and the Bourne-Vanneck Scratch Team Championship in 2013. We also enjoy plenty of social golf with various away day visits to other courses, and of course annual friendly matches. We currently play three other clubs in long standing annual matches, both at home and away. In 2014, we joined the Herts Friendly League where we play 5 other clubs from the local area.

The Seniors section have a busy schedule of approximately 20 matches each season which are very well contested and played in a friendly, but competitive manner. The Ladies’ section, although small, also plays a regular set of 5 friendly matches against other local clubs, as well as having regular internal stableford competitions and knock out competitions.

Members enjoy playing on Saturday mornings from 7.30 am, and on Sunday mornings from 8.00 am, but any other times can be booked by individuals via the Pro Shop. Some of our regulars also play on Tuesday, Thursday & Friday mornings, and the Ladies play on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10.00 am.
